Level 2 Paediatric First Aid
(2 QCF Credits)

This course is aimed at any individual who wishes to gain a national credited qualification in Paediatric First Aid. The credits achieved will go toward any vocational qualification being studied at the time.

Perfect for an Appointed Person or people who provide support to qualified First Aiders in the workplace.

Unit 1:

-    Roles and Responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider
-    Risk Assessment
-    Incident Reporting
-    First Aid Equipment
-    Incident Assessment
-    Primary Casualty Assessment
-    Calling for emergency assistance
-    Managing an unresponsive casualty who is breathing
-    Seizures (Epilepsy & Febrile Convulsion)
-    Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
-    Choking Procedures
-    Respiratory disorders
-    Wounds & Managing Blood Loss
-    Managing Shock
-    Anaphylaxis

Unit 2:

-    Injuries to Bones & muscles
-    Head Injury
-    Spinal Injury
-    Foreign Body
-    Eye Injury
-    Chronic Medical Conditions
-    Effects of Heat & Cold
-    Electric Shock Incidents
-    Burns & Scalds
-    Bites & Stings

Pre Entry Course Requirements:

  • Suitable candidate in the workplace who will be available at most times
  • No formal qualification needed, but a reasonable level of learning abilities will be beneficial
  • Maximum of 12 Candidates

Course Duration:

  • Candidates are Required to obtain a minimum of twelve contact hours training over two sessions.
  • Course Times are 09:00-17:00 for two days.

Certification

  • Three Year Certificate in ‘Level 2 Paediatric First Aid’. Value - 2 QCF Credits.
  • Assessments will be ongoing with a written assessment at the end of the course.
    • HSE Strongly recommends that First Aiders in the workplace attend annual practical skills courses during valid certificated period, but this is not mandatory.
